Sustainability

🌱 Sustainability at Gooderstone and Mundford Church of England Primary Academies

At Gooderstone and Mundford Church of England Primary Academies, we are committed to building a greener, more sustainable future — both for our children and for our planet. Sustainability is woven into our curriculum and daily life, helping pupils understand the importance of caring for the world around them and making responsible, thoughtful choices.

Across both schools, we are developing our vegetable patches so that children can experience growing their own produce, learning about food origins, healthy eating, and the importance of seasonal planting. We also hold Repurpose and Renew Days, where pupils and families come together to fix, mend, and reuse items. These sessions not only reduce waste but also encourage practical skills such as sewing and creative problem-solving.

A key part of our work is rewilding areas of our school grounds to promote biodiversity and create exciting opportunities for outdoor learning. With support from our Friends associations, we are raising funds to create a pond-dipping and ecosystem area, allowing pupils to explore local wildlife and learn about habitats first-hand.

Our sustainability work is deeply rooted in our Christian vision. We believe that we are all caretakers of God’s creation, and it is our responsibility to cherish, protect, and nurture the world He has made. Through reflection, learning, and action, we encourage our children to see themselves as stewards of creation — making choices that show respect, compassion, and gratitude for the environment.

By working together as a community, Gooderstone children are learning to let every light shine, while Mundford pupils are encouraged to achieve excellence in everything they do. Together, our sustainability projects help nurture faith, responsibility, and care for God’s wonderful world.
