Collective Worship

What does Collective Worship look like in our school?

Monday = teacher led whole school worship, sharing an Old Testament Bible story. Stories are retold in chronological order, with visual aids and props, and often children are included to act out parts or play specific people from the Bible. This introduces the story for the week, provides opportunity for discussion and reflection on which values may be demonstrated in the story and how the story is relevant and linked to the world we live in now.

Tuesday = a musical based singing worship, with hymns and songs chosen to link to the bible story of the week and also the forthcoming festivals and celebrations.

Wednesday = class based collective worship. The week’s bible story is revisited with pupils and they are given further opportunity to discuss, reflect and produce some work, either individually or collaboratively, to deepen their understanding of the story and its meaning. Often, Wednesday worship is an outdoor worship opportunity and is linked to our Muddy Puddle school ethos.

Thursday = children’s whole school worship, led by a different class each week. Children retell elements of the week’s bible story and then share their ideas and work produced in response. The children think about the values that have been reflected on and portrayed within the story, and share how this is linked to their learning journeys today.

Friday = whole school celebration worship, led by a Senior Leader. Each class celebrates their class “Star” for demonstrating our school values and their “Wow” linked to a particular curriculum area. “Writer of the week” trophies are also handed out and celebrated. One class each week shares an area of their learning that they are particularly proud of.

Every worship begins with the leader saying “The Lord is here” and the children and adults echo back “His spirit is with us”.

Nearer the end of the worship, The Holy Trinity is shared with all. Three children are selected to share an item each and say:

“We think of God the Father when we open the bible and study his words”.

“We think of Jesus the Son of God when we look at the cross”.

“We think of the Holy Spirit when we light the candle”.

“In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, peace be with you.”

Thank you for all your kind harvest festival donations. The Collective Worship and Ethos Committee ambassadors have used these donations to start a school based food bank for the community. The food bank will be outside school, between 8am and 4.30pm Mondays to Fridays during term time, and is available for everyone within our school community and the wider village.

Withdrawal Statement – Rights and Responsibilities

Our policy states “As established by the 1944 Act and reinforced through our Collective Worship policy, parents have the right to withdraw their children from Collective Worship. However, having chosen to send their children to the academy, it is hoped that no one will exercise this right. Should such a situation arise, appropriate arrangements would be made in keeping with the requirements of the Act”.
Please make an appointment to speak to a member of the Senior Leadership team if you wish to discuss your child’s participation in our schools collective worship. Thank you.
